Wildlife Rescue

Phnom Tamao Zoo’s veterinary team conducts health check-ups on bear species every three months (four times a year) to ensure they remain healthy and to prevent the onset of any diseases or illnesses. Regular monitoring is especially important, as both Moon Bears and Sun Bears are highly sensitive to disease.

Phnom Tamao Zoological Park serves as a rehabilitation facility for injured, orphaned, or sick wild animals affected by illegal hunting and wildlife trafficking. The Zoo provides professional care to a wide range of species—including critically endangered, endangered, and vulnerable animals—with the goal of releasing them back into their natural habitats. Between 2013 and 2018, approximately 8,343 wild animals were rescued and rehabilitated at Phnom Tamao Zoo.
