Meet the Black-collared Starling, known locally in Khmer as the "Kroling Kroloung" after its iconic, musical calls. Sporting a crisp white head and chest set off by a striking, thick black band around their neck, they look exactly like little choir singers dressed in their Sunday best! Think of them as the lively, energetic neighbourhood gossips of the grasslands. They are highly social birds that strut confidently across open fields and lawns, constantly chattering, whistling, and singing complex melodies as they eagerly search the soil for tasty insects. While they are a familiar and beloved sight across Cambodian fields, the increasing use of agricultural pesticides threatens the natural insect populations they rely on for survival. Our sanctuary provides a safe, chemical-free haven for these charismatic singers to thrive and keep the air filled with their joyful songs.
