Greater Adjutant

Greater Adjutant

The Greater Adjutant is one of the world’s rarest stork species and is found mainly in South and Southeast Asia. It is a large, impressive bird with long legs, a long bill, and a distinctive pouch of loose skin under its neck.

Greater Adjutants feed mainly on fish, frogs, reptiles, insects, and carrion. They play an important role in the ecosystem by helping to remove dead animals and organic waste.

This species is Critically Endangered, mainly because of habitat loss, disturbance of breeding colonies, and the decline of suitable feeding areas. Protecting wetlands and nesting sites is essential for their survival.

The Greater Adjutant arrived at Phnom Tamao Zoological Park, Protected Forest and Arboretum on 1 August 2026. It was donated by another zoo.
