Vultures are large birds of prey that play an important role in nature by feeding mainly on carrion (dead animals). Their strong beaks and excellent eyesight help them find and consume animal remains.

By removing dead animals from the environment, vultures help keep ecosystems clean and reduce the spread of diseases. However, many vulture species are threatened by habitat loss, poisoning, hunting, and a lack of food.

Vultures are important to Cambodia’s wildlife and play a valuable role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Protecting them helps preserve the balance of nature.

Vultures are rare species in Cambodia and are officially listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
The vulture arrived at Phnom Tamao Zoological Park, Protected Forest and Arboretum on 1 August 2026. It was donated by another zoo.
