The Gaur, also known as the Indian bison, is the largest species of wild cattle in the world, famous for its massive, muscular build. Both males and females feature distinctive curved horns and unique white or pale yellow markings on their lower legs that look like stockings. These strong herbivores live in small herds and spend their days grazing on grasses, leaves, and bamboo shoots in forest environments. Due to their immense size and strength, adult Gaurs have very few natural predators, though tigers occasionally attempt to hunt them. Today, Gaur populations are vulnerable, facing threats from habitat fragmentation, illegal poaching, and diseases transmitted from domestic livestock.
