With their striking turquoise-blue eyes, iridescent emerald-black feathers, and an incredibly long tail that flares out at the end exactly like a tennis racket (which gives them their name!), they are an unforgettable sight in the canopy. Think of them as the agile ribbon-dancers of the jungle; instead of flying in simple, straight lines, they use their specialized tail exactly like a highly responsive boat rudder. This built-in steering wheel allows them to expertly weave, twist, and glide through dense, thorny bamboo thickets with effortless grace to hunt for juicy insects and wild fruits. While they are highly intelligent and adaptable, their beautiful woodland and bamboo homes are steadily shrinking due to rapid land clearing. Our sanctuary helps preserve the rich, green environments these clever acrobats need to continue their mesmerizing aerial dances.
